The member representing Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has donated planks, roofing sheets, nails and other building materials towards the reconstruction of shops destroyed by the recent fire incident at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
Agboworin made the donation on Monday during his visit to the market, where he met with the Babaloja General, Alhaji Abdulraman Zubair and other stakeholders to commiserate with them over the devastating incident.
The lawmaker, who expressed sadness over the destruction caused by the inferno, said the visit was not merely to sympathise with the affected traders but also to demonstrate solidarity with them at a difficult moment.
“I came here to identify with our people and to let them know that they are not alone at this difficult time. What happened was painful, especially for people whose livelihoods and investments were destroyed by the fire.
“Apart from expressing our sympathy, I personally feel we should look at practical ways of supporting the affected traders to recover and rebuild. That is why I am contributing these building materials towards the reconstruction,” Agboworin said.
He urged the traders to remain hopeful, assuring them that efforts would continue to explore other avenues of support for those affected by the disaster.
Speaking during the visit, the Babaloja General, Alhaji Abdulraman appreciated the lawmaker for coming to identify with the traders and for providing immediate support towards the rebuilding process.
According to him, the gesture would go a long way in giving the affected traders hope at a time when many of them were still struggling to come to terms with their losses.
“We appreciate Hon. Agboworin for coming personally to see what happened and for not stopping at words of sympathy. The materials he has donated will assist us as we begin the process of rebuilding,” Zubair said.
Agboworin was accompanied during the visit by a member of the State House of Assembly, representing Ibadan North-East Constituency 1, Hon. Abiodun Babalola (Integrity); Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan North-East Local Government, Alhaji Isiaka Fatokun (Baba Abuye), as well as other party leaders and stakeholders in the constituency.
The delegation inspected portions of the market affected by the inferno and interacted with traders on the extent of the damage and the immediate needs of the victims.
