Fubara Remain PDP Leader In Rivers State – Bala Muhammad PDP Govs Forum Chairman

PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED AT THE END OF A HIGH-LEVEL MEETING BY THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PDP NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE AND SENATOR BALA ABDULKADIR MOHAMMED, CON, GOVERNOR OF BAUCHI STATE AND CHAIRMAN OF THE PDP GOVERNORS’ FORUM, HELD ON TUESDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2024, AT BAUCHI STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE

A delegation of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) led by the National Legal Adviser, Barrister Kamaludeen Ajibade, SAN today paid solidarity visit on the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, CON, to felicitate with him on the giant developmental strides recorded by his administration in delivering democracy dividends to the people of the state.

2. On the delegation were the National Treasurer, the Financial Secretary, the National Woman Leader, the National Publicity Secretary, and the North East National Vice Chairman of the party.

3. The delegation commended the courage and commitment of the Governors Forum in repositioning the party as it strives to deepen democracy and rescue Nigeria from the deep-seated problems confronting her.

The Legacy of the PDP
4. The meeting acknowledged the historical significance of the PDP in shaping Nigeria’s democracy and national development as evidenced by the 16 years of responsible governance, economic growth, and infrastructure development. Even in its current role as the primary opposition, the PDP continues to advocate for good governance, economic recovery, and social justice, ensuring that the aspirations of Nigerians for a better future are realized through constructive opposition.

Upholding Unity and Core Values
5. The meeting emphasized the importance of unity and adherence to the founding principles of the PDP, including inclusiveness, respect for the rule of law, and the party’s constitution. The PDP remains a beacon of hope for Nigerians. The meeting reiterated the need for internal cohesion and respect for the party’s structures, while endorsing ongoing efforts to reconcile internal disputes.

Leadership and Collaboration Within the Party
6. The PDP Governors, as leaders of the party in their respective states, plays critical roles in fostering unity and success at both state and national levels. The meeting stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration and regular dialogue between the governors, the NWC, and other party structures.

7. The meeting reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its zoning arrangement of positions in the NWC, with the view of upholding the provisions of the party’s constitution so as to ensure balance, equity and inclusiveness.

Commitment to Rule of Law: Rivers State Congress
8. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction with recent events in Rivers State, where attempts to disrupt party processes violated the PDP’ constitution. The arbitrary formation of a caretaker committee and the subsequent congresses undermined the party’s unity and democratic values. The meeting affirmed its support for His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara, as the leader of the party in Rivers State.

Commitment to Good Governance
9. The PDP stands in solidarity with Nigerians facing economic hardship due to poor governance at the federal level. The party remains committed to providing alternative solutions that will restore economic stability, social welfare, and improved governance.
