FINAL COMMUNIQUE
1. The maiden edition of Oluyole Economy & Security Summit 2024, with the Theme: ‘Expanding Grassroot Economy, Enhancing Community Based Security’ organized by Oluyole Local Government of Oyo State, Nigeria under the Leadership of Engr Akeem Olatunji; Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, and host of the Summit.
2. The following State and Local Government officials or their duly mandated representatives participated in the Summit:

4. Welcome address was delivered by the Host and Oluyole Local Government Chairman: Hon (Engr) Akeem Olatunji. He started by recognising and appreciating the giant strides of the State Government, ably led by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde with respect to massively investing in infrastructure and Human Capital Development across the thirty-three Local governments in the State. He then delved into the need for and purpose of the Summit while clearly elucidating the current challenges of the Council and how a well curated private partnership can be harnessed to further impact on the livelihood of residents in the Council.
Thereafter, as chair of the Summit, the Hon Commissioner for Environment & Natural Resources; Hon Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, gave the opening remarks followed by his admonition to all participants to ensure they maximise the gathering of the ‘who-is-who’ in the Economy and Security sector within the State who were present in the hall.
ON ECONOMY
5. The first Keynote address was delivered by the Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue; Mr Olufemi Awakan. He powered through a five page, well researched paper, focused on “Improving the Local Economy via Strategic Revenue Generation.” He gave an expose on the prevailing Nigerian economy, the impacts of policies linked to the IFC, IMF, World Bank and our own Apex Bank, as well as recent taxation policy reforms being advanced by the Federal Government. He concluded by submitting that economic reform is crucial for enhancing performance of any economy. However, careful planning and execution to address possible diverse challenges will be required.
ON SECURITY
6. The second Keynote address was delivered by the Executive Assistant (Security): Compol Sunday Odukoya rtd. He lauded the huge investment of the State government on acquiring massive gadgets and mobility for all the security agencies in the State as well as ensuring the kick starting of the Western Security Network (Amotekun) here in Oyo State. He advised all participants and also encourage others to use the 615 toll-free code to report all their observations wherever and whenever.
7. The Panel Sessions featured brief talks about the theme of the day as it concerns the respective offices of the following people and this order; DG Oyo State Mineral Development Agency: Hon Abiodun Oni, Chairman Oyo State Education Trust Fund: Barrister Abdulraheem Abiodun Abdulrahman, Representative of DG Operation Burst: Dr Stephen Oyinlola, Representative of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria: Mr Sunday Aboriomoh, Special Adviser (Security) to the Governor: Compol Fatai Owoseni rtd, Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources: Hon Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola (Summit Chairman) and on behalf of the traditional and community leaders present, Kabiyesi, Alayunre of Idi Ayunre: Oba Muritala Olumini, spoke.
8. A no holds barred ‘Questions and Answer’ session followed the panel session immediately.
Questions and comments centered around women economic empowerment, ensuring qualitative education, security, information dissemination, need for better synergy with private outfits and government, basic needs of the residents in the council and request for the creation of a well organised data base for the residents and indigenes of the council
7. RESOLUTIONS
With a view to consolidating the achievements recorded during this summit and
sustaining an inclusive region of peace, security and prosperity, the gathering made the following
resolutions as one:
1. The gathering commends the quality of the maiden Economy and Security summit aimed at deepening the economic and social integration process while consolidating political and overall stability, peace and security within the councila dn Oyo State by extension.
2. The gathering requested that such gatherings be designed to hold regularly and necessary appraisals made on each event.
3. The gathering identified the lackadaisical attitude of private establishments in the council towards supporting the Local Government, especially with respect to standard Corporate Social Responsibility requirements, and asked that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, lead the charge to ensure that their members turn a new leaf.
4. The Operations Counsel for British American Tobacco (BAT), who came to represent the multinational outfit, lauded the Chairman for organizing the Summit and also committed to taking back the resolutions of the gathering to the BAT management while also ensuring that their charity subsidiary (BAT Foundation), gets intimated of the need to come and execute some CSR projects and partnership with the council.
5. The gathering concluded on the need for deepened relationship with the existing traditional and community leadership to enhance local security and across board.
6. The 615 toll free code was re-emphasised by both the Security aides to the governor who spoke and the gathering was encouraged to maximise the opportunity it presents to report their security and other important observations in real time.
7. A suggestion to organize a separate Summit that will focus on harnessing Mining potentials within the council was received and taken into advisory from the DG Oyo State Mineral Development Agency: Hon Abiodun Oni.
CONCLUSION
Stakeholders and participants were unanimous in commending the Governor of Oyo State; HE Gov ‘Seyi Makinde for providing exemplary leadership and the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government for organising this all important Economy and Security summit. However, they urged the Council and much more importantly, the private sector, to ensure that the recommendations made here are implemented. The summit closed with a rendition of the Oyo State Anthem.
