Just In : Makinde Announces Compensation For Circular Road Property Owners, Moves To Gazette 75-Metre Setback

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced that compensation for property owners affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project will commence this week.

The Governor also disclosed plans to formally gazette a 75-metre setback for built-up areas along the corridor, a move expected to bring clarity and legal certainty to affected communities.

Makinde made the disclosure amid sustained agitations over demolition, land acquisition and the extent of setback for the 110km Circular Road project.

The proposed gazetting of the 75-metre setback is considered a significant development for residents in densely populated areas along the corridor, as it will provide an official legal basis for determining the acquisition limit.

However, its precise implication for individual properties will be determined by the content of the gazette, approved survey plans and the implementation framework adopted by the state government.

On compensation, the Governor’s commitment to commence payment this week is expected to address the concerns of affected homeowners and business owners who have sought fair valuation and prompt payment.

Affected residents are now awaiting detailed information on eligibility, valuation process, payment schedule and mechanism for resolving disputes.

The Ibadan Circular Road project is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at decongesting Ibadan, improving connectivity and stimulating urban development.

While the project remains strategic to the state’s economic expansion agenda, stakeholders have continued to emphasize the need for transparency, fairness and respect for property rights in its execution.

Attention will now shift to the actual disbursement of compensation and the official publication of the gazette as promised by the state government.
