A socio-political group, Oyo 4 All, has condemned a viral video circulating online which it described as an “immoral and unacceptable” act allegedly involving a gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State.
In a statement issued by the State Coordinator, Ibrahim Oyelere, the group said it was disheartened that Oyo State was being linked to such conduct at a time when the state is celebrated for its history, achievements and record of being first in many areas.
Oyelere described the incident as “shameful and regrettable,” adding that it was wrong for people in positions of influence to bring the state into disrepute for negative reasons.
“It is painful that instead of projecting Oyo State for its landmark achievements and historic firsts, some individuals are putting us in the news for the wrong reasons,” he stated.
The coordinator emphasized that the actions captured in the video do not represent the character or culture of the people of Oyo State. He said the group is therefore dissociating the state and its citizens from the conduct.
According to him, Oyo has a proud tradition of leadership, excellence and dignity that must not be eroded by the personal actions of a few individuals.
“We make it clear that the good people of Oyo State are not associated with this embarrassing display. Our state has always led by example, and we will not allow anyone to drag us backward,” Oyelere said.
He noted that any fallout or embarrassment from the incident should be carried by those involved, and not used to tarnish the image of Oyo State.
Oyelere also called on political leaders and public office seekers to conduct themselves responsibly, saying those aspiring to lead must respect the dignity of the office and the people they intend to serve.
He assured that Oyo 4 All will continue to defend the reputation of the state and speak against any act capable of bringing Oyo and its people into ridicule.
