“Just In: Agboworin’s Bill Proposing Creation of Ibadan State with 34 LGAs, First and Second Readings”

A bill for the creation of Ibadan state sponsored by the lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/South-East federal constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun popularly called Agboworin is now under consideration in the National Assembly.

The bill, was listed in the National Assembly Journal No 48. Volume 22.

Part of the bill reads: “The First Schedule, Part 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) is hereby amended to introduce Ibadan State and adjust the number of local government areas accordingly.

“There shall be a new state created, to be known as Ibadan State. Ibadan State shall be created out of the present Oyo State, in accordance with the provisions of this Act;

“Ibadan State shall have its own state government with executive, legislative and judicial arms, in accordance with provisions of the Constitution; The proposed Capital of Ibadan State shall be Ibadan.

“The number of local government area in the First Schedule, Part 1 of the Constitution is hereby adjusted to accommodate the creation of Ibadan State. The National Boundary Commission shall be tasked with clearly defining the boundaries of Ibadan State in consultation with the affected states.

“This Act shall come into effect upon its passage and assent by the President.”
